The Austin Zoo started in 1990 as Good Day Ranch, a home for domestic farm animals. Over the years the ranch kept growing, adding more animals and more land, and in 1994 it became the Austin Zoo.
Today the zoo cares for more than 300 animals across 100 species and serves as a rehabilitation home for animals that are being retired. Welcoming 237,000 visitors each year gives these animals comfort and reassurance while also teaching the public about them.
