In 1963, Lyndon B. Johnson served the United States of America as its 36th president.  LBJ was notable for his achievements in reducing the unemployment and poverty rate. He also contributed well to the growth of the American economy and was a civil rights hero. But his most important contribution is in the educational sector.

The establishment of the LBJ Presidential Library & Museum is just one of his many contributions under the education sector. Today it serves as a part of America’s history itself, readily accessible to the public.

ABOUT THE LBJ PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY & MUSEUM

The LBJ Presidential Library & Museum was founded in 1971 by Lyndon Johnson. The former president intended to make all the records of his administration available for the public to see. He also wanted to increase public awareness and knowledge through the museum.

The LBJ Presidential Library & Museum is home to 45 million pages of historical documents, 650,000 photos and 5,000 hours of recordings from LBJ’s administration. It also houses some of the most historically important clothing and objects owned by the president and first lady during their term.

Aside from the historical documents and objects, the museum hosts 6 permanent exhibits such as the Oval Office, The Legacy Gallery, and LBJ’s Presidential Limousine to name a few. There are also fully interactive online exhibits available on their website such as the Vietnam Conflict.

(If you like visiting museums and you’re in the Austin area, you might also be interested in making a stop at the Texas Toy Museum!)
