Established in 1960, the Austin Nature and Science Center is an outdoor science center that’s created to educate students and visitors about complex natural systems. They aim to provide hands-on educational exhibits and activities to enhance awareness and appreciation for the environment.
WHAT IS THERE TO DO AT AUSTIN NATURE AND SCIENCE CENTER?
The ANSC offers a wide range of recreational activities and programs for visitors of all ages. They can visit the Forest Trail, Naturalists Workshop, Dino Pit Fossil Dig, Wildlife Exhibits,and a variety of temporary and permanent exhibits.
The Trade Counter (limited trading hours), bird watching, accessible trails around the pond system are great seasonal attractions. There is something to do year-round.
Nature and science related exhibits such as the Nano Exhibit are also hosted at the Visitor’s Pavilion from time to time. The ANSC will schedule school programs, on-your-own tour registration, homeschool programs and Nature’s Way Preschool.
ANSC also features some art exhibits, such as Tempo 3D Art Installations, Art in Public Places and more. Many of these are not permanent, so there will be something different to see at each visit!
IS THE ANSC FREE?
Admission to the Austin Nature and Science Center is free for individuals and families. For organized groups, there is a $1/person fee. Camps, most educational programs, adventure experiences, etc. are fee based, because they require registration and need to be scheduled.

The beautiful Austin Nature and Science Center is open 7 days a week at the following hours:
- Monday – Saturday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Sunday from Noon – 5:00 pm
Note: The site closes for some City of Austin official holidays and certain events.
